Mike Stoodley

Crossfit Flood Owner/Programmer/Trainer

Mike is the owner of CrossFit Flood.  He is originally from Schenectady, NY.  He has been physically active his entire life, playing many organized sports.  On one level or another he played basketball, baseball, soccer, ran track and cross country, practiced tae kwon do and boxing, and weightlifted.   He joined the Navy on April 27, 1992.  As a Retired Master Chief Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman, he has over 27 years of experience in health and fitness; including Command Fitness Leader for Navy and Marine Corps commands.

He has over 8000 hours of CrossFit coaching experience.

Jake Straub

CROSSFIT FLOOD TRAINER

Jake’s passion for CrossFit began long before he knew what CrossFit even was. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and his childhood consisted of him playing just about every sport imaginable. From baseball, basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, football, to hockey and competitive snowboarding, he loved it all.
After moving to San Diego at 20, he began working at a Fitness Trainer for two years where he was then introduced to “functional fitness” for the first time. His passion for fitness then grew to a passion for service, where he then worked for the next 8 years as an EMT, Paramedic, and now currently a Firefighter/Paramedic for San Diego Fire-Rescue. When he isn’t at CrossFit Flood, you can find him with his Wife and 6 month old daughter serving in
their local church, or outdoors when possible. He believes the biggest investment you can make is in other people. He is currently working on his degree in Fire Technology, and his NSCA Tactical Fitness Certification.

Nikki Ledford

CROSSFIT FLOOD TRAINER

Nikki stumbled upon CrossFit through her love of nutrition and cooking. Her introduction to CrossFit began in 2010 while attending culinary school in Santa Cruz, CA. She loved the physical and mental challenge that CrossFit training provided while also creating a vibrant community of supportive and encouraging friends. For the past 6 years, Nikki has worked primarily as a Natural Foods Chef, cooking for private clients and events in and around San Diego County. In 2017 she rejoined CrossFit classes after the birth of her first child and quickly decided to pursue coaching with a Level 1 certification. In addition to coaching, Nikki teaches nutrition and cooking classes, maintains a number of private clients, and practices yoga regularly. The rest of the time you can find her with her husband, son, and big, fluffy St. Bernard, Tiny.

Renato Umakoshi

CROSSFIT FLOOD TRAINER

Renato started his fitness journey at 5 years old with Judo. After getting his black belt;12 years later, he retired from judo and looked for another sport. He tried Capoeira, Soccer, Kung fu and nothing really got his attention. Then, in 2014, he found CrossFit and he felt the same enthusiasm he once felt for judo. In 2015, took a step back from CrossFit to train Olympic weightlifting with Brazilian olympian Fernando Reis (5th on Rio Olympic games). A year later, he came back to CrossFit with another passion: give people the necessary tools to move better in life and have fun while working out. He thinks everyone is capable of doing anything, as long as they work hard for it.

RYAN WHEELER

CROSSFIT FLOOD TRAINER

Ryan found CrossFit after finishing his college basketball career at UC San Diego. After a few months of working out without the team atmosphere of college sports and having to figure out workouts on his own Ryan decided to try out CrossFit. After his first workout he was sold and became a member at Flood. Ryan was a member of our community at Flood for 5 years before he felt the tug to become a Level 1 trainer. Ryan’s favorite part of coaching is keeping a fun community oriented atmosphere in the gym where people can take joy in working out and push to accomplish their fitness goals. Ryan is easy to spot in the gym standing 6’10” tall and often being lapped by his wife Alex. Ryan and Alex’s free time is often spent at the gym or with their dog Trigger at the beach.

Alex Wheeler

CROSSFIT FLOOD TRAINER

Alex is a former Randolph-Macon College lacrosse player who is furthering her health and wellness journey as a nursing student. She has been an athlete and has played sports her entire life, and has always loved the competitive nature that sports create. She fell in love with CrossFit when her husband Ryan introduced her to CrossFit Flood. She had been struggling to find a competitive and team inspired gym that motivated her and constantly pushed her physical capabilities. Since beginning CrossFit, Alex has seen the impact that CrossFit can make in people’s lives, and has enjoyed watching physical and mental transformations of athletes in the gym. Alex loves the family aspect of CrossFit and how welcoming the community is. It has inspired her to be the kind of coach who is always welcoming and who is striving to constantly inspire her athletes to become the best versions of themselves.
